Optimist Club of Deerfield
Your Invitation to Optimism !!

The Optimist Club of Deerfield is one of over 300 clubs worldwide; we are a voluntary
organization of civic-minded men and women banded together for progressive thought and
action in community service; A member fulfills his/her role by attendance at meetings,
participation in service projects, serving on club committees or boards and by inviting
others to join in the club's pursuit of its purpose.

Purpose of an Optimist Club

To develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist creed; to
promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for the
law; to promote patriotism and work for friendship among all people; to aid and encourage
the development of youth in the belief that the giving of one's self in service to others
will advance the well being of humankind, community life and the world.

Why the Optimist Club?

What differentiates Optimist Clubs from other volunteer service organization is simple--
OPTIMISM. And Optimists take their upbeat approach and work every day to make a
difference for themselves and for the people around them. Optimists are people who
believe that through positive action in their communities they can create a better
tomorrow.

What are the Optimist Club Activities?

The question should be "what activities don't they participate?" (Please click on this:
Activities)Our Optimist club is involved with over 20 events a year in the Deerfield area.
Halloween Hoopla, Mudfest, Youth Appreciation Night, Special Essay Contest and The
Optimist Jr. High Basketball Tournament are just a sample.  You and/or your child(ren)
have probably participated in several of our sponsored functions.

How Often Do They Meet?

The Optimist Club of Deerfield members and guests attend both morning and evening
meetings. Morning meetins are held the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Tuesday, from 7:00-8:00 a.m.
at The Eggshell Cafe, 660 Lake Cook Rd., Deerfield.  Night meetings are held at various
locations including the Deerfield Senior Center, the Library, and the Deerfield Golf
Course Clubhouse. Night meetings are important for our members whose busy schedule
makes it difficult to attend a morning meeing. Attendance to every meeting is not
mandatory.  Anyone interested in joining is always welcomed to attend. Meetings are
extremely informational and entertaining.  A guest speaker is usually invited to talk to the
group.

What is Expected From its Members?

As with any group, we ask that each member give as much of themselves as they can. We
also count on our members to help with the annual Christmas Tree sale. You see, this is
the only fundraiser we have that allows us to fund all of our activities throughout the
year.
